What are Spark Ads? They are a TikTok ad format that turns an organic post into an ad. The post can come from your brand's own account or from a creator who authorizes you with a code. The ad keeps the original handle, caption and sound, and the likes, comments and follows it earns stay on that post.
This guide covers how TikTok Spark Ads differ from regular in-feed ads, how the post code works on both sides, what to agree with a creator, and how to feed the format with your own videos.
- ✓A Spark Ad boosts a real TikTok post: yours, or a creator's with their code.
- ✓Engagement and profile visits go to the account that posted, not to an ad copy.
- ✓Agree on duration, edits and disclosure before a creator sends the code.
What are Spark Ads on TikTok, exactly?
TikTok's Ads Help Center describes Spark Ads as a native format that uses posts from organic TikTok accounts and keeps their features. Two kinds of posts qualify: posts from your own TikTok account, and organic posts made by other creators once they authorize you.
Three details from the same help page matter most for a store:
- Views, likes, comments, shares and follows earned while the post is boosted are credited to the original post.
- A tap on the profile photo or the name, or a swipe left, opens the profile of the account that posted.
- The display name and the text come from the organic post and cannot be edited in Ads Manager.
The last point surprises many brands. If the caption needs to change, it has to change on the post itself, before the code is shared (source: TikTok Ads Help Center, "About Spark Ads", checked on 1 November 2026).
Spark Ads vs non-Spark Ads: what changes for an online store?
A non-Spark ad (a standard in-feed ad) is a video uploaded straight into Ads Manager. It lives only as an ad. A Spark Ad points to a post that already exists on a TikTok profile.
| Spark Ad | Standard in-feed ad | |
|---|---|---|
| Where the video lives | An organic post on a TikTok account | Only inside Ads Manager |
| Handle shown | The account that posted (yours or the creator's) | Your ad identity |
| Likes and comments | Added to the original post | Kept on the ad only |
| Profile tap | Opens the poster's profile | No organic profile behind it |
| Caption edits | Made on the post, not in Ads Manager | Written in Ads Manager |
| What you need | A linked account or a creator's post code | A video file |
For a store, the choice is less about which is better and more about whose voice the ad should carry. A creator's handle brings their audience and their way of talking. Your own handle builds followers for the brand every time the ad runs.
Your posts or a creator's: which should you boost?
TikTok's own business blog suggests boosting your brand's posts when you want to grow the account or run organic and paid side by side, and boosting a creator's posts when you want to scale a campaign with videos that feel native to the feed (source: TikTok for Business, "Spark Ads 101").
- Your own account fits product demos, launches and offers. You control the caption, the timing and the comments. You link the account to Ads Manager once, then pick posts as you go.
- A creator's account fits when the creator's audience matches yours, or when their style is the reason the video works. You need their code for each post, and an agreement before you spend.
Many brands run both: creator posts to reach new people, brand posts to test fresh hooks every week.
How do you get a Spark Ads code from a creator?
The creator does this part in the TikTok app, on the post you agreed on. According to TikTok's Spark Ads creation guide:
- The creator opens the video.
- They tap the three dots, then Ad settings.
- They tap Generate to get the TikTok post code, and choose how long the authorization lasts.
- They send you the code.
Then, on your side, in TikTok Ads Manager:
- Create a campaign, pick an objective and set the ad group.
- In the ad creative section, click Add videos or images, then open the TikTok posts tab.
- Click Add post and paste the code. You can authorize up to 20 codes at once, and each post shows its authorization period.
- Add the destination (your product page) and a call-to-action button, then publish.
Two rules to remember: a code can only be removed once every ad using it is deleted, and a creator must remove the ad authorization before deleting the post from their account (source: TikTok Ads Help Center, "Spark Ads creation guide", checked on 1 November 2026).
Ask for the code after the agreement, not before. The code is the technical part. The agreement is what protects both sides: how long the ad may run, on which budget, and what happens to the post afterwards.
What should the agreement with the creator say?
Spark Ads use the creator's handle, so the deal is closer to a paid partnership than to buying a file. Put these points in writing, in plain words:
- Which post, identified by its link, and the caption it will carry.
- The authorization period the creator will choose when generating the code, and whether you can ask for a renewal.
- The fee for the boost, separate from the fee for making the video.
- Comments: who replies, and what happens if the post draws questions about delivery or returns.
- The post stays up for the whole period, unchanged.
- Disclosure: the post says clearly that it is sponsored.
- Other uses: if you also want the raw file for Meta ads, that is a separate usage right.

Can you run Spark Ads with AI-generated videos?
Yes, on your own account. Spark Ads only need an organic post. If you publish a UGC-style video made with AI on your brand's TikTok, you can boost that post like any other, and every like and follow it earns stays on your profile.
This is where an AI content agent helps. Vuzz writes the script, picks a presenter and a voice, and turns a product photo into short vertical videos for your feed. AI can replace the creator shoot for UGC-style ads: you post the videos that fit your brand, keep the ones that hold attention organically, and boost those. You can see the full workflow on the Vuzz page for e-commerce brands.
Vuzz does / You check. Vuzz drafts the angle, the hook and the script, then delivers captioned videos. You check the product claims, the caption you will post, and the disclosure, then publish on your account and boost the posts you choose.

Which posts are worth boosting?
Start from what the feed already told you. A post that people watch to the end, comment on or share organically is the best candidate, because a boost adds reach to an opening that already works.
- The product is visible in the first second. No logo intro.
- One clear point per post: one problem, one demonstration.
- The caption works as ad text, since you cannot rewrite it in Ads Manager.
- The sound is cleared for commercial use on your side.
- Comments are healthy. A boosted post brings more of them.

Spark Ads checklist before you launch
- ✓ The post is live, public and final, with the caption you want.
- ✓ Your own account is linked to Ads Manager, or the creator's code is pasted and shows its authorization period.
- ✓ The written agreement covers period, fee, comments and disclosure.
- ✓ The objective is set (for a store, usually Sales or Traffic).
- ✓ The call-to-action button points to the right product page.
- ✓ Someone owns replies to comments during the boost.
- ✓ Two or three posts are ready, so you can compare openings.
What do the FTC rules mean for Spark Ads?
A boosted creator post is advertising, and the audience should be able to tell. The FTC's guidance for influencers, Disclosures 101, asks for a clear disclosure whenever there is a financial or other relationship with a brand. Under the Endorsement Guides (16 CFR Part 255), a testimonial also has to match what the speaker actually experienced.
For AI videos, the same logic applies. An AI presenter is there to demonstrate the product; it should not claim to be a customer or describe a personal experience it never had.
FAQ
Are Spark Ads only for creators' posts?
No. TikTok lets you boost posts from your own account as well. Link your brand account to Ads Manager, then select its posts when you build the ad.
How long does a Spark Ads authorization last?
The creator sets the period when generating the code, and Ads Manager shows it under each post. Agree on it in writing beforehand, with a renewal option if the ad performs.
Can I change the caption of a Spark Ad?
Not in Ads Manager. The display name and the text come from the organic post, so any change has to be made on the post itself.
What objectives can Spark Ads use?
With the auction buying type, the TikTok Ads Help Center lists Reach, Traffic, Video Views, Community interaction, App promotion, Conversions, Lead generation and Sales. A store usually starts with Sales or Traffic.
Do I need a creator to run Spark Ads?
No. You can publish your own videos, including UGC-style videos made with AI, and boost them from your account. Creators add their audience and their voice when you want both.
